The K-1 Fiancé(e) Visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows a foreign citizen to enter the United States for the purpose of marrying a U.S. citizen within 90 days of arrival. To be eligible for a K-1 visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be engaged to a U.S. citizen.
- Both you and your fiancé(e) must be legally free to marry.
- You and your fiancé(e) must have met in person at least once within the past two years.
- You must be admissible to the United States and pass a medical examination.
- Your fiancé(e) must file a petition on your behalf with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
- You must apply for the K-1 visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country.
- You must marry your fiancé(e) within 90 days of entering the United States.
After you are married, you may apply for a green card to become a permanent resident of the United States. It’s important to note that the K-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa and does not guarantee entry or permanent residency in the United States.
